Operations & Maintenance
Frontier Pro’s operation and maintenance service team provides comprehensive services to ensure your wind farm assets operate at peak performance. Our preventative maintenance program together with our best-practices approach to effective operations deliver bottom line results for our wind farm clients.
Our expert service team develops a detailed operations & maintenance plan, specific to each client, after assessing performance deficiencies observed between current and expected turbine performance. From a best-practices approach, the Frontier Pro team executes a pro-active operations schedule and appropriate maintenance measures to achieve optimum performance. All operations and maintenance service records are fully documented and stringently maintained to insure all services, repairs, and inspections are performed correctly, on time, every time.
With years of operations work tracing back to the pioneering days of wind energy along with our advanced technical expertise, Frontier Pro is able to both:
> Improve the performance output of older turbines, and
> Operate and maintain new turbines that feature state-of-the-art technologies
Operations & Maintenance Services
- Gearbox inspections, maintenance and repair. Frontier Pro technicians, with turbine-specific expertise, conduct full inspections of the pinion, gears, bearings and shafts. We perform a) root cause failure analysis, b) gearbox lubrication/ oil analysis, and c) vibration analysis. We execute complete quality inspections, and perform on-site preventative maintenance to ensure minimal downtime.

Oil changes. Changing oil on a turbine is a task in itself due to the location of the gearbox at the top of the tower and the enormous quantity of oil required for the job. Often neglected due to a shortage of qualified technicians, this is a critically important service that could cause very expensive problems. Many wind farm owners and operators have come to rely on Frontier Pro’s professional technicians to provide oil changes for their turbines. Frontier Pro delivers on time service, performed correctly, in a clean, efficient manner.
Turbine lubrication. As with regular oil changes, machinery lubrication is also critically important. Given the difficulty of getting to the turbine tower at regular lubrication intervals, it is all too easy for wind farms to fall behind on this service. Frontier Pro will manage and deliver this service for you on time, every time.
Hydraulic changes. Frontier Pro also staffs hydraulics experts to provide you with expert hydraulic fluids changes and inspections.

Blade inspection, repairs, cleaning and composite work. Blade maintenance and repair costs are rapidly becoming a considerable portion of a wind turbine’s maintenance cost. Frontier Pro’s blade repair facility has full in-house capabilities with welding, mechanical, and material (composite) engineering to repair all types of turbine blades. Our experienced technicians perform annual on-site blade inspections to identify and repair cracks before they require in-shop repairs and costly turbine downtime.
Custom composite fabrication.
Root repair.
Blade resurfacing.Blade cleaning. Like the windshield of your car, turbine blades tend to build up bug residue. This increased drag leads to lower production. Frontier Pro provides annual blade inspections that include a leading-edge cleaning service. We clean and inspect your blades, and apply a once-a-year adhesion prevention chemical that slows and deters bug build up to keep your turbine operating efficiently.
-
Thermal inspections and PLC controller replacement. Frontier Pro performs inspections of turbine controllers and (other components) via infrared scopes.
Controllers. Turbine controllers perform the computer functions to keep turbines operating safely and efficiently. As with other computers, controllers are continuously evolving, and endless changes quickly obsolete older product lines. Frontier Pro electrical engineers design and assemble programmable logic controllers (PLCs) to replace controllers improving the safety, performance, ease of operation and extending the life of older turbines.
-
Crane operations. Repairs and services using cranes to lift technicians and loads is a common requirement for turbine operations and maintenance work. This work is performed in windy conditions and at extreme heights. Proper safety and planning is a must. Frontier Pro provides qualified operators and full crane loading and unloading service to serve wind farms in Southern California.
-
General turbine and wind farm maintenance.
Oil leaks. Oil leaks pose an environmental threat that Frontier Pro addresses with our Tower Topper™ and gutter systems. The topper and gutter can be installed both inside and outside of the towers for effective control of oil leaks.
Tower Cleaning.
Cooling/ venting. In areas like Palm Springs where temperatures are extreme, turbines are often installed without adequate ventilation. Frontier Pro technician will inspect your turbines for proper cooling and ventilation, and provide the additional cooling systems necessary to ensure optimal turbine performance.
Noise control. As turbines age, turbine machinery will invariably exceed the turbines original noise level when new. Frontier Pro provides post-installation, sound dampening to help maintain the original stated noise threshold of the turbine.
Dust control.
Fire prevention and protection. Fire is a serious issue for technician and turbine machinery. Frontier Pro offers fire prevention and protection services for wind farm owners and operators to minimize the risk and prospective damage of fire.
Nacelle covers. Frontier Pro provide care and maintenance service for nacelle cover hardware and mounting.
